Are you pregnant and working??

9 10 2012

Here is a great opportunity to share your experience of working while pregnant. One of my friends is doing research about women who work while pregnant. This research could help others understand how organizations can do a better job at helping pregnant women in the workplace (or at the very least, stop doing things that negatively impact them). And as an added bonus… you have the chance to win an Amazon gift card. Spread the word about this study!!

Here is some information about her study:

Are you pregnant and working?

I am a management researcher from the University of Georgia but also a mother. I understand the struggles pregnant working women feel and want to help improve their workplace experiences. To do so, I need pregnant working women who are 18 years of age or older to fill out a couple short surveys. The data obtained in these surveys will help me examine the outcomes of managing one’s pregnant identity at work.

AS A PREGNANT WORKING MOM, YOUR TIME IS VALUABLE. THUS, YOU AND THE OTHER PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO BE INCLUDED IN A DRAWING TO RECEIVE A $50 GIFT CERTIFICATE FROM AMAZON.COM FOR EACH SURVEY.

Participation in the research itself is not necessary for you to be entered into the drawing.  PLEASE CLICK THE LINK BELOW TO ENTER THE DRAWING AND TAKE THE SURVEY. Also, please forward this link to other pregnant working women.

You can click on the link below to learn a little more about me and my research.  You can then click through to the survey by clicking “PREGNANT AND WORKING SURVEY. CLICK HERE” which you will find on the right hand side of the page.

Telling the Family

9 10 2012

A fun post about telling the family about being pregnant!

M C M I R A C L E

It was Sunday, September 2nd. My parents landed that evening. They were flying in to be with us when we received the transfer results. As far as they knew, I was going in for my blood test results the following day. They had no idea that we had taken any home pregnancy tests.

We picked them up in the airport. We got their bags. We walked out to the car. When we popped the trunk there was a wall hanging that said, “Nana” on it. They both looked confused. They thought I was getting ahead of myself, so they didn’t want to get too excited. That’s when I said, “I’m pregnant.” My dad hugged me for a long time and my mom started jumping up and down. Then she shared a story about a little four year-old girl in church that morning that saw her walk into the room and…

One of the many interesting posts on this blog about pregnancy in long-distance relationships. Currently managing a long-distance relationship with my husband with hubby far away and me and our 2 year old back at home. The long-distance topic definitely hits close to home.

Long Distance Baby

I’ve been away for a few days, taking a much-needed break,  because my beau, Todd, has been visiting me.

It is the first time I have seen Todd since I told him about the baby. Frankly, I was worried.

Long distance relationships are difficult, even when they are at their best. Ours is pretty good. We’ve been doing this for a year, and I have never had to be concerned that he would cheat, or his head would be turned by the newest pretty thing. I have given him no reason to ever think that I would be unfaithful in any way. I love him, and I believe he loves me.

But a baby? Well, that certainly changes the game. Suddenly, our love is no longer about the two of us. It has suddenly become about three of us. And some have told me that while two’s company, three’s a…

Pregnancy Update: 14 weeks

9 10 2012

Ahh, those fun days of “celebrating” with morning sickness.

Life, Really Blog

I’m officially in the second trimester! The baby has grown to be the size of a lemon. I celebrated yesterday morning by throwing up for the first time during pregnancy. I think it was caused by drinking tea on an empty stomach? It was kinda weird – I have a lot of energy in the morning so I was tidying up the house and all of a sudden, I felt sick. It lasted for about 5 minutes, I puked and then I was fine – but I made sure to eat something so that it didn’t return.

On Thursday, I ran almost a full 3 miles. Even though I’m still ridiculously slow and have to stop and walk every once in a while to keep my heart rate under 150, it felt great to get out there. It reminded me of why I love running – I love getting outside…

What will it be: Nene or Nena?

Week Thirty-Five

What a cute idea for documenting your pregnancy through photos, with the captions built right into the photo!

9 10 2012

a post about those beginning days of pregnancy, where you realize everything will be different, but nothing seems different yet.

Eternal Delirium

I keep feeling like I’ve forgotten something. Like there’s a big project at work that I haven’t started on…

Aside from very sore breasts, near constant hunger, and the occasional pulling in my lower abdomen, I don’t really feel “different,” although I suppose I’m only 4 weeks and 6 days pregnant.

Around 5 or 6 weeks I’m supposed to start getting food cravings and aversions. Should be interesting.

I go for an early ultrasound on the 25th. I should be able to see how many there are, and maybe even a heart beat! I hope they give me pictures to take home. My husband won’t be able to come with me, so I have to have something to show him.

A post about the PBS show “Call the Midwife.” This particular post calls attention to many points that provoke thought around how far we have come since the setting of the show (1950s)

Women's Wellness Watch

I don’t watch much TV.

Don’t get me wrong: it’s not because I don’t love sitting on the couch and passively receiving information from the screen. It’s just that I’m way too cheap to pay for cable, which means we only get PBS, Fox, and Univision. I hate Fox and I don’t speak Spanish, and I’m not a fan of Rick Steves.  So most of the TV I watch is children’s programming on PBS. Otherwise, I rely on Netflix and DVDs from the public library for my evening entertainment.

But last Sunday night, for some reason I turned on the TV, and was pleasantly rewarded with an episode of Call the Midwife.

Have you seen this?

It’s an hour-long drama about midwives in the 1950s in London. And it’s so good! In my wildest dreams I could have never imagined this program would be on television. It’s been…

Do Haunted Houses and Pregnant Women Mix????

9 10 2012

I know you are supposed to avoid alcohol while pregnant…but haunted houses? Sounds like those bystanders were being a little irrational, or they just like being in other people’s business!

A blog about that exciting moment of finding out if the baby is a boy or a girl!

lifelove+lucy

Words cannot express my excitement in finding out that we will be welcoming a sweet baby girl in February! A girl!! I’d like to believe that I would be just as thrilled with news of a boy but I think my smile is a teensy bit bigger knowing it’s a girl. 😉

When the ultrasound tech was going to tell us the gender, she started by saying “Ok, what has three…”, and in that moment, I thought for sure she must be talking about the “boy parts”, until she said “…lines down there?”. Lines? I felt as though the teacher called on me in Anatomy class to answer a question I totally didn’t know the answer to. I answered back with a question, “A girl??”. And she confirmed that I was right! I threw my hands in the air and said “it’s a girl!” while grinning ear to…
